In 1992, Avon Foundation for Women created the Breast Cancer Crusade in order to help prevent, treat & hopefully one day eliminate Breast Cancer. The Breast Cancer Crusade partners with programs & organizations not only in the United States, but all across the world. “The Crusade supports awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to care, support services and scientific research.” (Avon Foundation for Women, 2017)
One way, that Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Crusade raises money each year, is by going across the United States in 7 different cities hosting Avon 39 Walk. The Avon 39 is all about uniting men & women who want to make a difference in their community with one goal in mind- End Breast Cancer Forever!
What is Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer?
The Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer is an event that occurs in 7 cities across the United States each year. It covers 39.3 miles over the course of 2 days in each city. Since it started in 2003, the Avon 39 has raised nearly $590 million with the help of over 220,000 men & women who have participated. This is the largest fundraising event for Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Crusade.

How Can I Register?
You can register for the closest event to you at www.avon39.org with a non refundable $50 registration fee.
With registering, you agree to raise a minimum of $1,800 by Check-In Friday (Friday afternoon/evening prior to event weekend).
***Each walker must be at least 16 years old. Any participant under 18 years old must have written consent from parent/guardian.
Do I Get Assistance in Fundraising & Training?
Once you have registered for an Avon 39 event, you will be assigned a personal Fundraising Coach, a trained Avon 39 staff member who will help you with anything you may need. Plus, you will have access to digital & real world tools through “Our Go the Distance: Avon 39 Traning by Reebok” program to help you train for the 39.3 mile walk. This is a proven training program that will get you physically prepared, no matter what skill level you are at.
Within 10-14 days after registering, you will receive a kit that will contain all the information you will need along with fundraising & physical training handbooks, personalized donation coupons & more.
What Can I Expect During Avon 39 Event Weekend?
The Friday afternoon/evening prior to the event, you will be able to check in at the local host hotel. This is where you will receive your credentials & supplies for the weekend. Early check in can be completed online.
You can choose to walk 26.2 miles (a marathon) or 39.3 (a marathon & half) over the course of Saturday & Sunday. You will be notified of the starting & finishing points along with “cheering stations” for your friends & family prior to the event.
Saturday night you will stay at Basecamp 39. You will be provided a 2 person tent, dinner, shower, medical & massage services & more. You will be able to enjoy the camaraderie, a nightly show, dedicated areas to meet sponsors, learn more about breast cancer & receive fabulous giveaways. Friends & family can register to join you during the nightly entertainment however, they are not able to stay overnight. If you choose to leave Basecamp 39, you can purchase a $20 shuttle weekend pass prior to the event that will take you to & from the host hotel.
Can I Work or Volunteer at my Local Avon 39 Event Instead?
Yes! You can register as a Crew Member or Volunteer to help out with various tasks leading up to the event or during the event weekend.
Crew Members of Avon 39 events must be 18 years or older by Check In Friday, register as a participant & pay for the $50 registration fee. As a Crew member, you commit to participating an assigned role for the whole weekend, include camping at Basecamp39.
It is suggested for Crew Members to raise funds. They will receive the same tools & support as the walkers including a Fundraising Coach. If every Crew Member raises $500, Avon 39 would add $1 million toward additional breast cancer impact.
Crew Members are required to attend at least 1 Crew Walk Talk & Training meeting (there are 10 dates and times scheduled prior to the event) and attend the Crew Training Day 4-6 weeks prior to the event.
Volunteers are those who are able to commit a certain amount of time. They do not have to register. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age by Check In Friday. If a volunteer is under 16 years of age, he/she must be accompanied with an adult. Volunteers do not stay over night & job(s)/responsibilities may vary depending on what is needed at that time. Volunteers can help leading up to the event, Check In Friday or through out the event weekend based on availability of the volunteer & what is needed at that time.
Avon 39 Youth Crew
Children ages 10-16 years old can apply for a way to provide productive services during the Avon 39 weekend event. The spots are limited & there is an application process.

Where Do the Funds Raised Go?
The funds raised are distributed by Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Crusade to local, regional & national breast cancer organizations to help them support education, screening & diagnosis, access to treatment & support and scientific research.
